Our team is currently working on two Phase II Skateparks and thought we would share why this can be a beneficial approach. Typically, the Skatepark process is not an instant one. It begins with a need, a dedicated group of individuals, a willing municipality and of course FUNDING.
More often than not funding is the biggest hurdle for a Skatepark. Since the average Skatepark takes three to five years to become fully funded, it is easy for the project to lose momentum. Years of experience has shown us that people need to see progress, momentum is key to seeing your dream become a reality. One way to do this is to design the Skatepark in phases.
A phased design offers many benefits, such as:
SMALLER FUNDRAISING GOALS
- You can begin the project before raising the entire amount needed for the desired Skatepark.
CONCRETE IN THE GROUND FASTER
- You are able to design each phase into fully functioning Skatepark, which allows you to complete sections of the park at a time and use those sections while you continue to fundraise.
POSITIVE RESULTS
- When phased fundraising goals are set at a lower, more easily obtained amount. Not only can the community see the fruits of their labor, they can enjoy a finished product. This helps to keep the momentum going as the users are excited and able to benefit from all their hardwork, while donors can see the positive impact the Skatepark is already making on the community. We often see an increase in fundraising donations after Phase I is complete.
After the success of Phase I, municipalities are often more eager to assist with alternative funding, such as Grants.
